What are they?
Low-cost easy-to-use non-PC digital devices design to handle well a single task by drawing applications and services from an available network.
Types
- Client - personal devices designed to communicate with other computers and appliances (cellular phones, PDAs, network workstation smart cards, TV Internet access boxes, home appliances).
- Servers (a.k.a. thin-servers) - independent network peripheral servers providing affordable and seamless well defined services (storage, printing, scanning, WEB) to all available clients, offloading the backbone enterprise components (file servers, mainframe, midrange computers
